Olympiad Dresden 2008
Nigerian Chess Federation casts it selection net far and wide
In order to include as many players as possible in the selection process for the Dresden Olympiad, Nigeria has been conducting trials in Nigeria, the United States and Europe.
The trials in Nigeria started with 30 players being invited, males and females in separate sections. These then competed in a Swiss with the top 6 males and females being invited to a round robin tournament.
The trials in the United States involved fewer players but was nevertheless hard fought.
It is not clear whether the European trials have taken place yet, but at the end of the day they will end up with a list of 8 men and 8 women out of which the teams for Dresden will be chosen.
Certainly an interesting process!
