African Teams Barred from Olympiad.

It appears that the teams representing Ethiopia, Nigeria and Uganda to the Dresden Olympiad have been barred from participating. In addition, their accommodation has been cancelled on instruction from FIDE.

This is apparently all due to the respective national federations not paying their FIDE membership dues despite numerous requests to do so.

This is unfortunate, especially considering the efforts made to hold trials on 3 continents by Nigeria in order to select a representative team. The interest generated by the various trials will now be wasted if the teams do not actually participate.
