Comments on the Premier Division:

Steinitz beat Bellville A in a tightly contested match last night. At one stage it seemed that Bellville might be going for a win. The ship was steadied for Steinitz when WP Co-Closed Champion Mark Lewis beat  Louis Havenga in a tactical melee. The score 4-1 flattered Steinitz.

The defending Champions Stellenbosch found the going hard against Goodwood. They won 3.5 to 1.5 but on the top boards the brothers Davies scored 1.5/2. On board one WP CO-Closed champion Stanleigh Davies held Henry Steel to a draw and on board two Shaun Davies survived a King march to record a victory against Anant Dole.

Belhar Knights top order order showed they meant business by reeling off three wins against Steinitz B thus securing their second win for the league.

Manyanani fielded Advocate Maxwell Solomon on Board one and recored a five nil victory against UCT. The students have yet to get off the mark after two matches.

Uitsig recorded their first win of the Premier when they beat Bellville B 3-2. A good victory for Uitsig.

Cape Town beat Claremont 3.5 to 1.5 with Claremont struggling as many of their players are dispersed amongst other clubs.

An interesting feature of tonight’s round was the featuring of family! In the Steinitz team Brothers Kenny and Craig Willenberg played on board 4 and three respectively. In the Goodwood team the brothers Shaun and Stanleigh Davies sat on two and one. In The Steinitz B team Roland and Athon Willenberg sat next to each other. And in the Uitsig team George and brother Stephen were teammates.
